Hoof Products & Thrush Treatment

Hoof Products & Thrush Treatment

You can see that this frog needs a good cleaning and thrush treatment. The central sulcus divot at the back of the frog is gaining depth and beginning to affect the region between the heel bulbs. Diligent & daily treatment will help turn this around.

THRUSH TREATMENT & PRODUCTS:

I cannot stress this enough - dealing with thrush is so important!
Uncomfortable feet = uncomfortable body.

Nutrition & trim comes into play here but when it comes to topicals… The classic thrush and white line treatments, like Thrush Buster, Diluted Bleach & Copper Sulfate have harsh, caustic, ingredients. This means that they may work well to clear the bacteria, but it is likely they will also damage or weaken healthy surrounding tissues. Weakening healthy tissues can just create more pathways for bacteria to infiltrate.
If you wouldn’t put it on yourself, don’t put it on your horse.

Cleaning the Hoof:

Meticulously pick & clean hoof, spray with ACV to flush deep cracks and crevices & then apply the product of your choice. Mud & Pastes are the BEST. They stay put for so long & create the perfect barrier between a clean hoof and mud, dirt, manure. Oils, have their place and it is NOT always! Oil is best used in dry climates, not humid ones.

Topicals:

  • Red Horse Products from EDSS

  • Pure Sole Hoof - Spray, Mud, Wax

  • Apple Cider Vinegar - 50/50 with Water for Cleaning Spray or Soak

  • Desitin Diaper Cream Maximum Strength 40% Zinc Oxide

  • White Lightning Soaks

  • Toe Jam

  • Today/Tomorrow Lactating Cow Mastitis Cream (Weird, but works).
